Gluten Free Restaurants in Texas:
The Successful Celiac's Guide to Dining Out
In the Lone Star State

Posted on 5:12 pm by Gluten Free Guy

Two celiac support groups have done a marvelous job of making life easier for Texas and visitors to Texas who live  gluten free. Start your search for celiac friendly food in Texas by reading these reviews published by the Dallas Fort Worth Celiac Support Group as well as these articles from Alamo Celiac  which focuses on San Antonio and the surrounding area. As always, read defensively. Different people have different ideas about what “gluten free” means. (By the way, everything that I write must be read with the same kind of care and healthy skepticism).

Click here for a copy of the card given to participants in a Celiac Support 5K Run/Walk in Austin Texas. It includes addresses of celiac friendly local restaurants in and around Austin. Since many of these are chain restaurants, some of the names are useful throughout Texas and elsewhere. I wish there was more detailed information on the card.

Plano, Texas, offers two opportunities for gluten free dining. Check out The Bavarian Grill, which serves German cuisine in a restaurant that certainly looks authentic. Laura’s Bistro offers a 100% gluten free environment.

The Wild Wood Art Café in Austin an  art-filled environment in a bakery and café where gluten free visitors are welcome. While in Austin, try Maudie’s Tex-Mex which serves great food at five locations and posts its gluten free menu on-line.

The Gluten-Free Restaurant Awareness Program has identified 76 Texas restaurants that meet the rigorous criteria established by The Gluten Intolerance Group. A safe and tasty meal is available in any of these establishments.

Welcome to Texas. I hope that this "Successful Celiac's Guide" is useful but it is certainly not complete. Please send me an e-mail at gfceliac@gmail.com  if you have first-hand information that I need to add.
