Gluten Free Superbowl Sunday

No Comments 28 January 2012

Here are some ideas for Superbowl Sunday — which is not officially a holiday but certainly a day for gluten free food and fellowship. Since this most of this eating and drinking will take place in groups that include both people who live gluten free as well as wheat-eaters.

I wrote on this subject earlier this month and also the beginning of 2010 and 2011. I checked all the links and made the  necessary updates so that they will be helpful this year. I suggest you check them out if you will be host or a guest at a superbowl party

Gluten Free Super Bowl

No Comments 17 January 2011

Super Bowl Sunday is a great day for food and parties and therefore a challenge for people living gluten free. I’ve written about Super Bowl Sunday each year since I began this site. My posts for the last two years are worth revisiting.

My post just prior to last year’s Super Bowl included video demonstrations of foods you might want to share as well as some suggestions for avoiding cross contamination.

My 2009 article emphasized the essential topics of gluten free pizza and gluten free beer.

Later this week, I will publish an article about gluten free opportunities in the Dallas area. For the rest of us, here is a video demonstration of cooking Garlic and Butter Clams Casino, a wonderful addition to any party. Be sure to use gluten free bread crumbs and make sure that your Worcester sauce is OK.

Gluten Free on Superbowl Sunday

No Comments 06 January 2010

Superbowl Sunday hasn’t been declared a holiday — at least not yet. But it is a day that that revolves around food and fellowship and is therefore a challenge to the gluten free. My usual technique for surviving a party is to bring one or more safe treats so that I will certainly have something to eat. I always bring “finger food” so that serving spoons will not be a source of cross-contamination.

There  are certainly  plenty of choices.  Elana’s Pantry and Glutenfreeda offer complete plans for gluten free Superbowl parties. My strategy last year was to volunteer to bring all the chips for the party.  Since chips are finger food, it is relatively easy to protect against cross contamination from serving utensils.

If these suggestions are not enough for you, here are two video demonstrations that may help with your planning for the big day —- avocado dip and hot wings belong at every Superbowl feast.
