Although Omission Beer tests out at less than 5 ppm gluten, it may-or-may-not be safe for people who live gluten free.
The problem is that the beer was crafted from barley (just like traditional beer) and then treated with special enzymes. The finished product received excellent scores on the screening test. The Celiac Support Association got egg-on-its-face by declaring that Omission Beer was “no risk to the gluten free community”.
Celiac expert Dr. Alisandro Fasano explained the confusion by saying that “The purpose of the … (screening procedure) is to test for cross-contamination with naturally-occurring gluten, not gluten that is artificially manipulated or degraded”.
Omission Beer tastes great!!!!! I know what I am talking about —- I worked in Germany for 22 years and this beer tastes like the wonderful stuff that was originally brewed by monks as a religious rite. Unfortunately, that wonderful stuff also brought my as-yet-undetected celiac disease to the point where I had to retire early. I enjoyed several bottles of Omission before I heard about the issue. I’m waiting until the experts make up their mind!.
