“Depression Cooking” is a series that is making a big hit on YouTube. The recipes (most of them gluten free) are economical enough to have been used in the depression, They are simple enough to be used by any child, and the 93 year old cook-narrator reminsces about her life asĀ a child during the depression while her food is cooking. At least three of her recipes can be prepared gluten free.

Try this recipe for Peppers with Eggs. The demonstration is labeled Part 1. Part 2 deals with making bread to go along with the peppers and eggs. Since Clara’s bread recipes can’t easily be made gluten free, I’ll leave you to find an appropriate substitute.
Finally, consider Clara’s menu for “A Poor man’s Feast”.
Paul’s Personal Point-of-View: My grandsons (ages 4 and 6) have inherited their father’s love for cooking. I’m eager to share these videos with them. They also need to know that people like Clara still exist.
