Gluten Free Bread Recipes

Posted on 5:21 am by Gluten Free Guy

Gluten bread recipes are the items most frequently requested by celiacs who search the internet. There are thousands of recipes available; that’s not the problem. The issue is that the gluten free bread available stores is much more expensive and much less satisfying than bread made at home. Every celiac family needs at least one competent baker in the household.. I'm glad my wife and both my daughters-in-law meet that qualification.

This article will have several parts. I’m not sure how many yet. There is so much to be covered! I'll  start with  recipes suited for newly diagnosed celiacs who have a passionate desire for gluten free bread but have limited experience baking bread at home. To further complicate things, gluten free baking is somewhat different from wheat based breadmaking. In that sense, we are all beginners.

Here are two book suggestions. My first recommendation is for Gluten Free cooking for DummiesGluten-Free 101 by Danna Korn. I’m not sure why her bread recipes are in the middle of the chapter on breakfast, but the recipes you’re looking for start on page 121. by Carol Fenster has some great background information on gluten free flours as well as a chapter of bread recipes.

The first recipe that you will need is a gluten friendly all-purpose flour mix. Grains are different. No single flour is an adequate substitute for wheat flour. Both books that I have recommended have recipes for mixtures. Both the books that I recommended contain recipes. It is also possible to purchase already mixed mixtures from almost any gluten free food source. The mixtures are all equally useable and tasty as far as I am concerned.

The recipe that you may wish to try first is sandwich bread; ordinary bread that we pack into lunch boxes and toast for breakfast in the morning. Unfortunately, this is relatively difficult to do well. Try this recipe if you are feeling brave.

Try this recipe for Simple Bread. It certainly lives up to its name but also tastes great!

This recipe for honey blueberry gluten free bread is easy to prepare because of the excellent step-by-step, well photographed instructions accompany it.

Cornbread sounds like it should be gluten free, but standard cornbread usually contains some wheat flour. Use this recipe instead.

I recommend this recipe for gluten free banana bread. Great taste! Easy to prepare! Popular with all ages.

Look for more articles on gluten free bread recipes. My next one is scheduled for Friday, September 12..
