"After reading your story, I thought I would reply with a "shortened" version of my own journey of being diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I was diagnosed in April of 2008. Through the years, I have been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome, esophageal flux and reflux, migraines, sinus problems, chronic pain, tiredness, and when I was younger, dermatitis. I always thought the migraines were hormonal related, but after having a complete hysterectomy in Feb., 2007, the migraines didn’t go away. I felt there was something else going on and after discussing this with a friend, asked my doctor to test me for food allergies. When the test results came back and my doctor called me at home at 7:00 p.m. at night, she advised me of what I had and was so apologetic that this was what I had. I told her I was happy to at last find out what it was, knowing that I had the ability to try to control it now. I immediately got on the internet and started my research. I’ve been on a wheat free/gluten free diet since then and feel like a different person. Before the diagnosis, I had already had my doctor increase the no. of prescription migraine pills I could get each month from 6 to 12 because of the no. of headaches I was getting each mo. Since the diagnosis, I haven’t had to get my migraine medication refilled. I continued to have stomach problems, and went through a battery of tests to find out my gallbladder was diseased. I had that removed in May of 2008 and that’s helped tremendously.
