Alaska Gluten Free

The Outback Steakhouse, Chili’s, Red Robin, Dairy Queen, and The Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon have restaurants in Alaska. For locations and menus, visit this page which enables you to get information about these and other chain restaurants.
I was not able to find any individually owned gluten free restaurants in Alaska. If they exist, they do not have websites that proclaim their celiac friendly status. . If you have information that should be published in this blog, please click here to contact us.
The Gluten Intolerance Group has a contact person in Anchorage and The Celiac Sprue Association lists one in Juneau. These individuals may be able to put you in contact with local celiacs.
There are several Fred Meyer supermarkets in Alaska. Click here for locations or here for their gluten free products list. Fred Meyer even makes provision for "Alaska Bush orders" which can be shipped anywhere in the state.
Gluten Free Central in Wasilla also serves Alaska. "We specialize in bulk gluten-free items for Alaskans….Product information is available on our website as well as a cooking class schedule. Presently we do phone orders for pickup and ship to remote locations in Alaska."
I wish this list was longer. Since there are about 670,000 people in Alaska, we can assume that at least 5000 Alaskans (1 out of every 133 people) need the gluten free diet and that many of them do not recognize that fact. Alaska seems like a good destination for a gluten free entrepreneur.

As a small update:
Th Natural Pantry in Anchorage and Glacier Dietary in Wasilla both have great GF grocery options. And Moose’s Tooth is preparing to roll out a GF pizza crust this spring in Anchorage. There is also a Boston’s Pizza in Anchorage. And in the Palmer/Wasilla areas there is the Red Beet bistro and Turkey Red.
