The Gluten Free Life Style:
Three Useful Sites

Posted on 3:05 pm by Gluten Free Guy

These three sites make our gluten free lifestyle easier and more “doable”, even though none of them have any obvious connection to gluten free food or diet:

My family and friends are gracious enough to allow me chose the restaurant where we will be dining, and will veto any restaurant that I tell them I can’t handle. The least that I can do is make sure that we don’t spend time running around looking for the restaurant. I use Mapquest.com to get detailed turn-by-turn directions whenever I visit a gluten free restaurant or food store for the first time. There are other sites that provide the same information, but I find that Mapquest works best for me.

When I am telephoning a company about a food item, I want to talk to a human being not a computer. This site, appropriately called gethuman.com,  helps me achieve that goal. The vast majority of companies listed are totally unrelated to our situation, but the data base is searchable and the information can be a life-saver.

I originally made this list for my own use, but I find it so helpful that I published it on my blog. I would frequently look at an address ending with the abbreviations AL or AK and wonder whether I was dealing with someone in Alaska or Arkansas. The post office has published a list of “official abbreviations” to help reduce the confusion. Click here to visit it.
