Gluten Free Fast Food Restaurants

Comments Off 26 October 2007

Finding a gluten free fast food restaurant is difficult for at least two reasons:

In most fast food restaurants, there are a large number of relatively inexperienced people working in a very small area: cross contamination is very possible.

Much fast food is deep fried, and originally gluten free items become contaminated when fried in the same oil as gluten toxic foods.

Fortunately, there are some exceptions. Several fast food chains publish information about menu items that are prepared with gluten free ingredients:

Chick-Fil-A publishes a list of suggestions for gluten free patrons. Click here for information about locations. This site even includes a feature that enables you to plan an automobile trip between any two destinations and get information about Chick-Fil-A restaurants along the route.

Wendy’s publishes a large list of "items prepared without gluten". Click here for a list of locations. You will need to list a city and state to get information.

Many of the salads served at Subway are gluten free. Click here for a list of Subway locations. You will need to enter a city and state to get information.

Taco Del Mar publishes an excellent list of gluten free offerings. The bad news is that the list has not been updated since 2004. Click here for information about Taco Del Mar locations.

Dairy Queen divides its offerings as "treats" and "eats". There are no gluten free "eats". Click here to learn about the gluten free treats.

Taco Bell has a few suggestions tacked on to the end of its allergens list survive there, but….

Unfortunately, I could find no more good news.

Burger King and McDonald’s deal with wheat allergies but do not address other gluten issues.

Arby’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Long John Silvers, In-and-Out, and Quiznos have nothing to offer us.

Good luck! If you have information that belongs on this page, please use the top button in the second column to send me an e-mail.
