Gluten Free Thanksgiving

Posted on 8:24 am by Gluten Free Guy

Your Thanksgiving turkery is naturally gluten free. You will need to avoid the self-basting variety (unless you can confirm that the butter mixture injected into it is celiac friendly) and refrain from cooking gluten-toxic stuffing inside the bird. Click here if you need detailed instructions on how to prepare a turkey.

This article does a marvelous job explaining the process of preparing the turkey. Here are some "recipe roundups" that will provide more side dish recipes than you could possibly need. These links will take you to visit the Gluten Free Bay blog, the Gluten Free Guide blog, and the blog offered by Mona's Gluten Free Blog. This article titled "Celebrate a Gluten-Free Thanksgiving" even includes a two week countdown for preparing and presenting a holiday feast. Even a contributor to The Gluten Free Forum has offered provided "favorite gluten free thanksgiving recipes".

NOTE: AN UPDATED AND EXPANDED THANKSGIVING ARTICLE IS AVAILABLE. CLICK HERE TO VISIT THAT PAGE. BE AWARE THAT SOME OF THE INFORMATION IN THE ARTICLE YOU ARE NOW READING MAY BE OBSOLETE OR NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

This is a good time of year to think about what we are thankful for. I'd like to express my gratitude for the having "two many recipe choices" this season. I recall the first Thanksgiving after my diagnosis in 1999 when my wife and I were in panic mode trying to find something to bring to the family feast. I wrote a Thanksgiving article in 2002 shortly after I began this blog. Finding the information I needed was very difficult.  Today, I could easily quadruple the size of this article in a relatively short time. But I think this is sufficient.

A mild caution: The articles that I have linked you to were prepared prior to Thanksgiving 2006. I am reasonably sure there is no obsolete information, but — as always — celiacs need to practice defensive shopping and careful cooking.
