Gluten Free Restaurants in Arizona

6 Comments 31 August 2007

8/31/07    The Picazzo Pizza Restaurants are among the most famous eating places in gluten-free America

There are at least three local gluten free support groups that publish lists of recommendations for safe dining  in their area.  The Phoenix Celiac Group also publishes a restaurant list. In the Tucson area, study the list published by  The Southern Arizonia Celiac Support Group.  The annual conference of   The Celiac Sprue Association was held in Tucson in September 2007. Their list of recommended restaurants is still on-line.

At least ten restaurant chains offer great food in Arizona. Click here, scroll down to the restaurant group that interests you, and follow the directions on the screen. To return here, click the green arrow in the upper left corner of the screen. You may need to do this more than once. Restaurant chains serving Arizona include:

Carrabbas Italian Grill

Chili’s

Claim Jumper

First Watch

Maggianos

On the Border

Outback Steakhouse

P.F. Changs

PEIWEI Asian Diner

Romano’s Macaroni Grill

Uno Chicago Grill

My plan is to publish an article like this for each of the fifty states. This is a huge undertaking, but I can do it by covering one state each week. I want to know I have the best possible format before I get too deeply involved. Let me know what you think. To make things more interesting, when you e-mail me with suggestions you can also tell what state to work on next. My e-mail address is gfceliac@gmail.com.

Here’s my personal opinion on the subject. There are too many links and too little information. My reason for doing this is simply that writing these fifty articles will be a major project but that keeping them up-to-date would be unrealistic. So, I invented this idea that I am calling "links to links". I’ll keep the links up-to-date, and then the article will up-date itself.

I went to Picazzo Pizza in Sedona, AZ and was overwhelmed by the huge selection of gluten-free pizzas. It was so comforting to walk into a restaurant and have the waitstaff and the kitchen completely understand my dietary needs. It was one of those gluten-free dining moments where I was literally brought to (happy) tears.
    I highly recommend this place.

Brewed Awakenings at 4030 E. Bell Rd is no longer open. It has been closed for at least a year that I know of.

This is another awesome GF pizza place. Far away from me, but well worth the drive. It’s basically Subway for pizza. Build your own mini pizza, and they have GF crust! THe manager’s wife is a Celiac, so they know to change gloves to avoid contamination. They’re amazing! They also have GF beer, brownies, and special deals for GF guests on Wednesdays I believe.

Honestly, I’ve never had a better pizza! Try it today!

    Enjoy!

  4. If you have never experienced Sedona Retreats I strongly suggest you do. Your mind, body and soul will thank you.
