Gluten Free Chocolate

Posted on 4:52 pm by Gluten Free Guy

8/18/07 Chocolate is naturally gluten free. It appears neither on the “safe” nor the “unsafe” list published by Celiac.com. When problems occur, they seem to involve flavorings or other items added to the chocolate. Obviously, a whole host of problems arise when chocolate is used in baking; but I’ll leave that discussion for one of my articles about baking.

In the meantime, “read every ingredient label every time”. It’s difficult to know what to do if you see the word flavoring. One risk free alternative would be to purchase Dagoba chocolate on-line. This firm handles no products that are gluten-toxic. Whole Food and Wild Oats stores offer several varieties of chocolate designated gluten free.
