Gluten Free Beer

Don’t forget the difference between “gluten free” and “wheat free” during your quest for celiac friendly beer. There is plenty of wheat free beer available, including almost everything brewed by Budweiser. Barley is the "culprit" in any discussion of gluten free beer.
Anheuser-Busch introduced Redbridge Beer early this year. It is distributed nationally which makes it easier to obtain and less expensive. Everything you need to know about finding this treat is on the website. This beer is brewed from sorghum, not barley. I’m not sure I remember what “real beer” is supposed to taste like, but I certainly enjoy Redbridge.
The Ramapo Valley Brewery ferments honey to make its beer. Their site will lead you to local retailers and/or enable you to order on-line.
Bard’s Tale Beer is brewed from sorghum and has many retail outlets. A “beer locater” is part of their home page.
There are at least two micro-breweries that produce gluten free beer: Schlafley Brewery and Dark Hills Brewery. The bad news here is that the sites do not advertise any way to get the beer without visiting the brewery.
Are there other sources of gluten free beer? I hope so! Let me know at gfceliac@gmail.com if you have information that should be part of this article. I am particularly interested in microbreweries that are working to perfect gluten free beer
You’ll probably want pizza to go with your beer. Check out my article on “Gluten Free Pizza”.
