Gluten Free Frozen Pizza from Foods by George: a Product Review

0 Comments 09 August 2007

8/9/07 For the first time since my celiac diagnosis eight years ago, I am enthusiastic about home baked gluten free pizza. This crust tastes great, does not fall apart, and is easy to cut and to chew. My wife, who has no need for the celiac diet, totally agrees.

All products from Foods by George are prepared in a totally wheat and gluten free environment. The manufacturer states that the product can be stored for up to one year in the freezer. It is available from The Gluten Free Mall.

I intend to keep a supply of these single-serving pizzas on hand for use when my friends want to share a pizza and I need an alternative. I’ll probably stock up on pepperoni or sausage as well; my gluten free diet does not need to interfere with my enjoyment of a party.

One minor cautionary note: the instructions reminded me that the pizza would be hot when taken out of the oven. I took that about as seriously as I take the “warning” that the coffee in my paper cup is hot. What I needed was a heads-up that the pizza is really messy during the first seconds that it comes out of the oven. The “problem” is merely a minor nuisance except for people (like me) who are not expecting it.

This was my first experience with frozen food that had recently been shipped from The Gluten Free Mall near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to my home in Portland, Oregon. The shipment arrived in late afternoon on a very hot day. Everything seems to be in great shape. The Mall’s website gives very clear instructions for ordering frozen as well as for minimizing shipping costs.
