++++++ REVISED AND UPDATED 7/31/07 ++++++

7/31/07 The Gluten Free Bible is subtitled “The Thoroughly Indispensable Guide to Negotiating Life Without Wheat”. The book lives up to that claim!!!!!!

  The Gluten Free Bible is “…about the whole celiac, not just the one sitting at the dinner table. How do we grow up gluten free? How do we make sure we remain gluten free in an emergency, manage our medicine, survive dating, college, a trip to the hospital, organize our kitchens, go trick-or-treating, negotiate all the twists and turns on the gluten-free path? A cheeky attitude helps, of course, and that is something I will never change….When you have celiac disease, half-empty versus half-full is no longer a cliché; it’s the difference between being well-fed and feeling like a victim…With The Gluten Free Bible I present my case for choosing joy over sorrow, self-assertion and resourcefulness over fear and negative thinking, pleasure over regret….What follows is the only way I know how to live: with a glad heart, a wise head, a healthy sense of self-worth, and full stomach….The Gluten Free Bible is the story of how I saved my own life and ate happily ever after.”

She mentions the need for a “cheeky attitude” in her introduction to this book. I’m not sure what that phrase means, but I know that her attitude is the one that I need to thrive as a celiac and as a human being. I also know that her attitude flows from every paragraph in the book.

  It would take pages to describe the contents of this book, but a list of her lists will give you some idea of what this book is all about:

  • Nine basic rules to help you cook and eat safely
  • Ten attitude adjustments
  • Eight simple rules to ensure that you and your host never feel ill at ease
  • Sixteen anti-cheating strategies
  • Does and don’ts at the doctors office (10 items)

Basic essential information like this will last until that great day when celiac disease becomes a distant memory. All books for the gluten free have the problem that some “facts” change from day-to-day. The internet gives you a tool for keeping up-to-date.

  If this book is not already in your library, click on the picture below or the title underlined in the first paragraph to purchase it from The Gluten Free Mall.
