Gluten Free Restaurants in Maine

First of all, be assured that boiled lobster is gluten free. There may be complications if your lobster is broiled or if it is stuffed with anything. I'm sorry that I am not able to make any specific recommendations here. I hope that some of you will be able to supply information that I can add to this article.

Here are some more ideas about gluten free dining in Maine:

The Outback Steakhouse provides its usual great food, wonderful service, great atmosphere, and gluten free menu at its restaurant in South Portland (207-761-4400).

The Bugaboo Creek Steakhouse, my choice for America’s most cleverly titled restaurant chain, has dinner ready for you in Bangor (207-945-5515) as well as in South Portland (207-5400).

And don’t forget Uno’s Chicago Grill, located in Bangor (207-947-5000) and in South Portland (207-780-8667). Click here to read their suggestions for those living gluten free. After you click on this page, scroll down to the middle of the second column to access the information you need.

The 99 Restaurants chain serves family style meals in Bangor (207-973-1999), Augusta (207-623-0999), Auburn (207-784-9499), Topsham (207-725-4999), and Biddeford (207-283-9999). Click here for their list of foods that contain gluten or allergens. Be aware that there are relatively few gluten free items. But if you consult this list ahead of time, you can certainly enjoy a gluten free meal in any of these locations.

Maine offers abundant opportunities — in the mountains or at the seashore — for exquisite picnics. Do your shopping at Hannafords Supermarket; they publish a gluten free list that is generic enough to use at almost any grocery store.

I hope you enjoy New England as much as I do!

Gluten Free Guy :

The good news here is that fish and lobster are naturally gluten free. All we need to worry about is how the seafood is prepared. I'm sure that appropriate places exist, but they are not advertised on the net. If you discover any "safe" places, please let me know so that I can update this article.
