Gluten Free Yogurt

0 Comments 16 May 2007

5/16/07 Plain yogurt is naturally gluten free. Complications occur when we add fruit or other flavorings and when we consume frozen yogurt.

The safest course of action is to purchase plain yogurt and provide your own mix-ins. Any fresh or canned fruit will work and so will nuts, gluten free cereal, or gluten free granola.

I wish I had a happy solution  to the frozen yogurt problem. If anyone does, please let me know by e-mailing me at gfceliac@gmail.com or by leaving a comment at the end of this article.

Plain yogurt is recommended in many gluten free diets. I found examples at WebMD.com and Mamas Health.com. I could certainly have found others.

I also found plain yogurt featured in many gluten free recipes. I located this set of fourteen recipes at Epicurious.com plus individual recipes posted by Wild Oats and The Gluten Free Goddess. Clearly, gluten free yogurt is considered appropriate for for our liefestyle.
