Gluten Free Pizza Crust

4/28/07 If you are preparing gluten free pizza at home, the topping is not a problem. Just be sure to read the ingredients label in all the ingredients you use. Preparing the pizza crust (or shell if you prefer that term) is a bit of a challenge, so I’ll focus on that in this article.

Recipes abound on-line. Here are three that I can recommend personally:

  • a “thin and crispy” crust recipe from Fitness and Freebies.
  • a yeast free and gluten free recipe by Bette Hagman, America’s leading authority on gluten free cooking.
  • another recipe by Bette Hagman; this one can be modified to make a delicious focaccia bread.

Many gluten free cooks prefer to use a pre-made crust. It is not easy to roll any kind of dough into something as large and thin as a pizza crust. Ener-G Foods offers excellent gluten free crusts. You can order on-line or find a local retailer on the site.

There is a site called glutenfreepizza.com, but its only function is to sell "Dad’s Gluten Free Pizza Crust". You can do the same thing at the Gluten Free Mall and save shipping cost by ordering a large and varied supply of gluten free foods.

The Gluten Free Mall offers four different pizza mixes, three varieties of pre-made pizza crust, and even offers frozen pizza dough (2 brands), frozen pizza crusts, and even a complete frozen pizza. Since linking you to everything that “The Mall” would be very tedious for me and produce an article that would be almost impossible to read, I will add a banner linking you to The Gluten Free Mall’s home page and let you  fend for yourself.

Enjoy your pizza. Ordering frozen food on-line was a new experience for me, but the people at "The Gluten Free Mall" know how to make it go smoothly. Be sure to order enough frozen items to make the total cost of shipping reasonable. The site will tell you exactly how to do that.
