The Gluten Free Diet for Children

UPDATED 5/18/07 A child’s gluten free diet is not essentially different from that prescribed for adults. If you have not already read it, I suggest that you read my general article on The Gluten Free Diet and then return here specifics about how all this applies to the gluten free child.

Raising our Celiac Kids — better known as ROCK — is the national organization for celiac children and their families. Click on the name to download their family guide  or click here for access for access to ten articles by Danna Korn, who founded ROCK to help her own celiac children and is one of America’s most highly regarded authorities on the subject.

Many children are prescribed a diet that is both gluten free and casein (dairy) free. Here is a link to the major site supporting children and families in this situation.

Children love to cook, and being involved in preparing their food will increase their commitment to the gluten free lifestyle. I recommend The Wheat Free Gluten Free Cookbooks for Kids and Busy Adults.

I also recommend The Gluten Free Kid: a Celiac Survival Guide. Our lifestyle is not easy. The word “survival” is used very appropriately in the title of this book.
