Gluten Free Easter — Part 1

0 Comments 06 March 2007

While searching for celiac-friendly Easter ideas, I found a wide variety of items. Since all the ideas here relate to Easter but not to each other, I decided to resort to a bulleted list:

  • Here’s a link to an article called “Fifty Ways to Fill an Easter Basket”. It sidesteps the problem of food sensitivities by filling the basket with non-edible items like stickers and toy cars. Suggestion: print out and file this article. The list will come in handy when you are getting ready for trick-or-treating on Halloween.
  • A middle school in Illinois has posted a sheet of Easter recipes, probably in the hope that the kids will work with their parents or siblings on them. The recipes are not gluten free, but you can certainly modify them by using Bette Hagman’s 4 Flour Blend and celiac-friendly licorice (or find some other way to simulate Easter Bunny whiskers) The link in the last sentence will enable you to order the flour mix from The Gluten Free Mall.
  • Here are two recipes for “Easter eggs” made with chocolate chips and peanut butter. These recipes are available from Desk Top Cookbook and Cooking Cache.
  • Are chocolate chips gluten free? Probably, but if you have any concerns about this, order them from The Gluten Free Mall. Their chips are also milk free, corn free, egg free, soy free, and kosher. The link in the last sentence gives you access to the five pound bulk size. Click on the picture at the bottom of this post if you are interested in the ten ounce package. All the major brands of peanut butter are gluten free. You may be concerned about the oils that are added to less-well-known brands.
  • This post is already too long. I’ve divided it into two parts. Click here to read more thoughts on a gluten free Easter.
