Gluten Free

Gluten Free Labeling

0 Comments 30 January 2007

The term "gluten free" means different things to different people. The situation is so complicated that I have not referred to any websites outside the U.S.A. on my site. The risk of passing on misinformation is high, even when even when you are dealing with your own country’s customs and traditions. What about oats and vinegar? Does distillation remove the gluten contaminants from vinegar and from alcoholic beverages? Are small amounts of gluten harmful to us? How do you define "small amount"? The Food and Drug Administration is attempting to develop a standard definition " to guide manufacturers who wish to label their products "gluten free". They have posted an interesting "Question and Answer" page to answer our question. I recommend it — it has certainly given me useful information that will influence what I say on this site.
