Many supermarket chains publish lists of wheat free / gluten free products available in their stores. This information is valuable. but it also changes daily, so be sure to update your printout of the list regularly and continue "defensive shopping" by reading every ingredients label every time.
The bad news is that these are not supermarket chains that cover the entire nation but hopefully you will find helpful information here. I have listed the stores in alphabetical order. Click on the store name to view their list.
- Hannaford Supermarkets with stores in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and New York. [Click here for list of store locations]
- Stop and Shop Markets, with stores throughout New England, New York, and New Jersey. [Click here for exact store locations]
- Trader Joe's, with stores throughout the country. When you click on the store name, you will need to indicate whether you need the gluten free/wheat free list for the eastern or western part of the country. [Click here for exact store locations.]
- Wegman's, with stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. When you get to this page, you will need to specify whether you need the gluten free list or their gluten free + lactose intolerant list. [Click here for exact store locations.]
- Whole Foods Market, with stores all over the country. To get their wheat free/gluten free list, you will first have to specify the store at which you will be shopping. Apparently, there are many versions of the list. [Click here for a list of store locations.]
- Wild Oats, which also has stores all over the nation.[Click here for a list of store locations.]
This is a very special post for me because it is the first one done in response to a comment from one of my visitors. I love doing this website, and since it is a one man operation, I am able to respond to individual needs and that makes things even better. If you are interested in suggesting a post, click on the COMMENT button in the lower right corner of the post.
I'm sorry that the huge chains like Albertsons and Safeway are not represented here. I could find no indication that they publish wheat free/gluten free lists. If these lists do exist, let me know so that I can get the information on-line. If you did not get the information you needed from this post, you might want to try my post describing the new allergens labeling law. This will not solve all your problems, but it does streamline the process of reading an ingredients label.
